As part of its strategy to build a range of sports offerings in the UK, ESPN is taking its first throw at darts with live coverage of the Winmau World Masters.
The 2011 Winmau World Masters will add to part of ESPN’s growing line-up of UK and international sport which includes the Barclays Premier League, Aviva Premiership Rugby, Clydesdale Bank Premier League, UEFA Europa League, Serie A, Bundesliga the NFL’s Monday Night Football, NBA, UFC, AFL and French Top 14 rugby.
The sports broadcast leader has agreed provide live and exclusive coverage from all three days of the British Darts Organisation’s (BDO’s) flagship tournament from 2–4 September.
The tournament is the oldest established major in World Darts (first played in 1974) and the 2011 event at the Hull Arena will see darts legend and reigning World Masters and World Professional Darts Championship title holder Martin Adams attempt to spear a fourth consecutive win.
ESPN’s live televised darts coverage will be led by leading UK sports anchor Ray Stubbs, presenter of both the BDO World Professional Darts Championships and the Winmau World Masters for several years during his time with the BBC. All discussion and analysis will come live from the tournament.
