Deutsche Telekom’s IPTV platform Entertain faced reduced interest in Q2 2011 - the number of customers rose by only 44,000 while in Q1 2011 an increase of 101,000 customers was recorded.

In total, Entertain now has 1.3 million connected subscribers. By the end of 2012, Deutsche Telekom wants to increase this figure to 2.5-3 million, and aims to reach the 5 million mark in 2015.

To accelerate growth, Telekom will launch a collaboration with satellite operator SES Astra in early September 2011. The companies want to offer a hybrid solution in which customers receive conventional television, including HDTV platform HD+ via Astra (19.2° East), while interactive services such as video-on-demand (VOD) will reach TV screens via the Internet. Reception will be through a hybrid box suitable for both DTH satellite TV and IPTV.
