Beckham: 'Door is open' for PSG move

Former AC Milan coach Leonardo would be open to linking up with David Beckham again at Paris St Germain.
The Brazilian, now sporting director at the Parc des Princes, worked with the the former England captain when he was loaned from the Los Angeles Galaxy to the San Siro club.
With the 36-year-old in the final year of his Major League Soccer contract, speculation is rife as to what his next move will be.
Leonardo told BBC Sport: "The door is open. He is more than a football player - he's a brand, a pop star. I would always consider him.
"He respects the rules, listens to you and wants the best for the team. That's why for me he is a big example. I worked with him and that's why I talk about his name."
PSG are the financial powerhouses of French football having been taken over by the Qatar Sports Investments this summer.
It means the club would certainly have the means to bring Beckham to Paris, while Leonardo's history with the player could also be a factor.
"I coached him at AC Milan and we created a good relationship," said the Brazilian.
"He is more than a football player, but when you see him every day he trains and plays like a kid.
"He is someone that I really appreciate and admire so much - his values and everything he has done in football."
Beckham has also been linked with a move to Barclays Premier League clubs QPR and Tottenham.

Cesc Fabregas: Denies Arsenal comments
FABREGAS - I DIDN'T CRITICISE ARSENAL

Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas has denied giving an interview in which he was quoted as saying it was "hard to see" former club Arsenal winning the Premier League or Champions League "in the near future".
The Spain international, who returned to his boyhood club this summer, was reported to have told Sport magazine that uncertainty over the Gunners' short-term goals played a part in his decision to leave.
However, the 24-year-old took to his Twitter account on Thursday evening to deny ever making such comments.
He tweeted: "Id never speak 1 bad word abt AFC, here there's once more prove that so many people put in newspaper wtv they want and its not professional.
"I want Arsenal to be successful as much as every single fan. Thats not why i left, it was never in my mind. AFC made me who i am today.
"And nobody will ever change that. I never gave any interview away since my press conference at my presentation and there i just said the truth and what came out of my heart. Great words abt this great football club cause that just what they deserve: success and trophies.
"People can h8 me 4 leaving or remember that i gave my all for the club. But me talking 1 bad word or saying smthng against AFC will not seen."
Fabregas was quoted by 'Sport' magazine as having said: "I want to be in a club that is able to win the big titles year after year and I don't see that kind of future for Arsenal.
"I still have many feelings for Arsenal, but I fear that they won't be able to push the other big clubs in England away.
"If you look at the team this season I can't see them finishing in front of teams like Manchester United or [Manchester] City, or Chelsea. There's just too big a difference between the squads.
"I respect that Arsenal don't have the same financial opportunities as the others, but it was part of my decision to leave that I find it hard to see Arsenal winning the Premier League or Champions League in the near future."

Arsene Wenger: Sympathy for Steve Kean
WENGER: STEVE KEAN NEEDS MORE TIME

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has every sympathy for the plight of under-fire Blackburn boss Steve Kean - insisting it is "hard for everybody" no matter what end of the table.
The Lancashire club are bottom of the Barclays Premier League with a section of supporters planning a protest march ahead of the lunchtime kick off at Ewood Park demand a change in the dugout.
Kean maintains he can turn the club around with owners Venky's, who appointed the Scot after axing Sam Allardyce in December 2010, issuing a statement urging everyone to get behind the team.
Wenger accepts in the modern game it is often difficult for young managers to get the time needed to move things forwards.
"It is hard for everybody, even for those who manage for 30 years," said Wenger, who transformed the Gunners since taking charge in September 1996.
"I just believe this job is difficult. Every who has been in it knows it, and how much depends on the situation you are in at the moment."
Wenger added: "I have a lot of sympathy for Steve Kean. He is a young manager and you want to give him time to do his job.
"A lot of time you complain the British managers do not get a chance and I can understand that but when they do get a chance you must give them time."
Arsenal have endured one of the most testing openings to a campaign of Wenger's tenure, being thrashed 8-2 at Manchester United before the international break.
However, following five signings ahead of transfer deadline to rebuild the squad after selling captain Cesc Fabregas and playmaker Samir Nasri, there are signs of positive improvement.
The Gunners built on what was a nervy 1-0 win over Swansea last weekend, a first of the new Premier League campaign, with a hard-fought 1-1 Champions League draw at Borussia Dortmund.
Wenger, who will have duo Alex Song and Gervinho back from their domestic three-match bans on Saturday, is certainly not dwelling on what he views as a "one-off" shocking day at the office against United.
"The atmosphere was very down after the Old Trafford game, but since we have put two results together and that changes straight away the atmosphere in the camp," he told a news conference.
"People at the moment have a definite opinion. One game is played, and everyone knows who will win the European Cup, who will win the championship, everybody knows absolutely everything.
"When it is wrong the next day, nobody says 'sorry I was wrong'."
Wenger added: "You have to consider that last year we were the best away team in the league, and Old Trafford was a one-off result.
"You cannot take that as a general rule, and what we have achieved over the last few years away from home is what people forget.
"We put a lot of effort in at Udinese, and lost a lot of players before that game at Old Trafford."
Arsenal were far from their fluid best in labouring to victory against Swansea and were pegged back for long periods by Dortmund, who struck a fine late equaliser to deny the English club a rare away European win.
Wenger, though, is in no doubt once the confidence returns, so will the Gunners brand of slick passing football.
"What is important for us at the moment is to get the points and the best way for us to do that is to play well," he said,
"Against Swansea we were under massive pressure and we will be again at Blackburn but let's focus on getting the ball, playing our game and then we will have a chance to win the game."

Ferdinand: Rejected offer from Ukraine to join QPR

Anton Ferdinand has revealed he turned down a lucrative move to Dnipro in favour of a switch to Queens Park Rangers.
The 26-year-old joined ambitious QPR on transfer deadline after Sunderland decided to offload the defender.
Ferdinand admits the offer from Ukraine was more lucrative than QPR's offer, but he insists the move to Dnipro did not excite him.
"The offer from Ukraine came in first and it didn't excite me - I'm not someone who goes somewhere because the money was right," Ferdinand told The Times.
"I'm all about my football and if you do well in football, the money comes to you."

Kirkland: Has been linked with a loan move
KIRKLAND SET FOR WIGAN STAY

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez has no plans to send out-of-favour goalkeeper Chris Kirkland out on loan.
Kirkland has found himself frozen out of things after falling behind Ali Al-Habsi in the pecking order at the DW Stadium.
A number of clubs are thought to be keen on signing the former Liverpool and Coventry shot-stopper on loan, but Martinez is keen to keep him and see him fight for the No.1 spot.
"We don't want him to go," said Martinez.
"Chris has a fighting mentality and wants to be No.1 - that's why I want him in the dressing room.
"If he did accept being second choice it would be time to move."

Santon: Injury-free when he joined Newcastle, say the club
DAVIDE SANTON SET FOR SECOND SCAN

Newcastle have moved to dismiss suggestions that new signing Davide Santon's knee injury could be related to problems he suffered earlier in his career.
Manager Alan Pardew revealed on Thursday that the 20-year-old former Inter Milan full-back was undergoing a scan after damaging his right knee in training.
Santon has been ruled out of Saturday's Barclays Premier League trip to Aston Villa, in which he might have made his senior debut for the club, after initial tests, and he will be re-assessed early next week after treatment.
A club statement said: "Newcastle United can confirm that Davide Santon sustained an injury to his right knee during training on Thursday which will keep him out of Saturday's match against Aston Villa.
"The player had a scan on Thursday afternoon and will undergo treatment over the weekend and will be reviewed by a specialist early next week.
"Davide was injury-free when he completed his pre-signing medical examination and scans. The injury he sustained on Thursday is not connected to his previous injuries."
Pardew was delighted to capture Santon after a lengthy search for a replacement for Jose Enrique, and the player's misfortune will come as a blow with the club fearing he could be sidelined for a month.
Ryan Taylor has filled in at left-back during the opening weeks of the campaign, but he endured a tough night against QPR's Shaun Wright-Phillips on Monday to underline the need for a specialist.
Newcastle head for Villa sitting in fourth place in the table and unbeaten in all competitions so far this season.

Eriksson: Everything is fine
SVEN DISMISSES SACK TALK

Leicester boss Sven-Goran Eriksson has shrugged off speculation that his job is in danger.
National newspaper reports have suggested the Swede is living dangerously after an underwhelming start with one of the pre-season promotion favourites.
Eriksson admits he had expected the first six Championship games to yield more than eight points but denied he felt under scrutiny from the Foxes hierarchy.
"I have not seen the reports but I have been told and I am not surprised," he told the Leicester Mercury.
"This is football. I am not worried about it. Everything is okay.
"The board have not said anything about that at all, and you go on working and everything is looking forward to the big game on Saturday. That is all that I can do about it.
"We try to as much as possible to shield (the players) from the pressure, but perhaps some of them have felt it a little bit."

Tony Mowbray: Looking for new striker
MOWBRAY MAINTAINS STRIKER HUNT

Tony Mowbray is continuing his search for a new striker despite Middlesbrough's excellent start to the season.
Marvin Emnes has been a major hit on Teesside with seven goals to his name to date, but there is little back-up to the Dutchman and Scott McDonald following the summer departures of Kris Boyd, Leroy Lita and Lee Miller.
Mowbray, therefore, is keen to add to his ranks with a loan signing.
He told the club's official website: "We are working very hard behind the scenes and striving to get in a striker.
"We are playing a lot of games in a short space of time and with a thin squad, you have to guard against the chances of players becoming fatigued."

Ryan Donaldson: Loan move
ROVERS SEAL DONALDSON LOAN DEAL

Tranmere have completed the signing of Ryan Donaldson on a one-month loan deal from Newcastle.
The 20-year old, who can play in midfield or attack, has progressed through the youth ranks at St James' Park after joining the Magpies at the age of 10.
Donaldson made his first-team debut for Newcastle in August 2009 and has made six appearances for his hometown club. He spent two months on loan in League One last season at Hartlepool, where he played 12 times.
"I'm really pleased to be able to bring Ryan to the club, said Rovers boss Les Parry.
"He's a talented young player who I've watched a lot for Newcastle's reserves and last season for Hartlepool and he's always impressed me.
"He's good on the ball and has an eye for goal and he'll be an excellent addition to our squad. I'd like to thank Newcastle manager Alan Pardew for allowing Ryan to join us."
Donaldson will be available for Tranmere's home game against Wycombe on Saturday.

Ledley King: Wants to keep playing
TWENTY IS PLENTY FOR KING

Ledley King is confident that this season will not be his last at Tottenham.
King, who joined Tottenham in 1998, is in the final year of his contract and manager Harry Redknapp says the defender must play at least 20 games to earn an extension.
If his recent history with injuries is anything to go by, he may struggle to hit that mark.
King has been troubled by injury throughout his career and rarely trains with the Tottenham squad as his knees swell up after every game.
The defender's chances of playing a full season last year looked good when he began Spurs' campaign without any problems until he suffered a groin injury that meant he played just nine out of Tottenham's 53 games.
The 30-year-old underwent an operation on his troublesome knee this summer in a bid to make sure that he would get a full campaign under his belt but he missed the first two league games before returning to star in the club's 2-0 win at Wolves last week.
King, who was rested for the Europa League game at PAOK Salonika, wants to put his last year's injury "nightmare" behind him and is sure will get enough game time under his belt to earn a new deal.
"Is 20 games a realistic target? Yes, I aim to play as many as I can," King told the London Evening Standard.
"Last season I started with a niggly groin problem, played the first few games and then came off against Fulham with a torn groin muscle.
"From then, every time I tried to come back I kept having a problem with the groin.
"It was a nightmare situation trying to get it right, so I worked over the summer trying to get it right and coming into this season it feels a lot better. "It's just a case of getting back to concentrating on looking after the knee now and hopefully nothing else will pop out of the woodwork. "If I can just manage the knee, there is no reason I can't play quite regularly."
When fit, Redknapp regards King as one of the best defenders in the league. The Spurs boss is serious when he talks of the fans' favourite needing 20 games to win a new deal, though.
Last season Jonathan Woodgate, another popular figure, was released after he failed to overcome his injury woes. That does not make King afraid of his future, however.
He said: "I don't feel the need to speak to anyone about it at the moment. I'll try to let my football do the talking. If I can stay fit and play the games, the situation will take care of its self."
Redknapp said after the 5-1 hammering against Manchester City that the summer transfer saga concerning Luka Modric and Chelsea had left a bad atmosphere around the club.
He is now convinced that cloud has lifted after the transfer window closed and he was able to shuffle his pack by offloading several fringe players and signing Scott Parker and Emmanuel Adebayor.
King has been impressed with Parker and Adebayor and believes their arrival has freshened up a squad that was in danger of going stale.
"There was a lot of speculation pre-season, a lot of players not knowing whether they were coming or going so it was a little bit strange," King said.
"Scotty and Emmanuel have different qualities to the players we've let go, so it's something fresh.
"We needed to freshen up a little bit. We'd played with the same group of players for a while and it was important to bring some fresh faces in to give us something different."
With Parker and Adebayor in their ranks, King sees no reason why Spurs cannot regain the Champions League spot they lost last year.
"Having had the taste of it and doing so well in the tournament, the players felt like we belonged there so there is no reason why we shouldn't be striving for that again," he added.
