    Arne Friedrich: Wolfsburg exit
    ARNE FRIEDRICH LEAVES WOLFSBURG

Wolfsburg have terminated the contract of defender Arne Friedrich by mutual consent.
Friedrich joined the Bundesliga club from Hertha Berlin last summer but missed the entire first half of the season following an operation on a slipped disc suffered in August 2010.
The 32-year-old has only featured in 15 of a possible 40 league games for the club, failing to make his mark at Volkswagen Arena due to his ongoing injury problems and his struggle to regain fitness.
Manager Felix Magath revealed Friedrich approached him and asked to be released from the deal, which was due to last until June 2013.
"Arne Friedrich came to us and asked us to terminate his contract," Magath told bundesliga.de.
"We regret his decision, but wish him all the best for the future."
The Germany international recently undertook a rehabilitation programme with the club's reserve team after the pain resurfaced in June, which stopped him from training with the first team this season.
Friedrich told his website: "Today I asked VfL Wolfsburg for resolution of my contract.
"Both sides have parted amicably. I will want to use the next few weeks to consider carefully how to proceed and which path I will take."
Retirement may now be on the horizon for the defender, who made the last of his 82 appearances for Germany in a Euro 2012 qualifier in June.

Colin Calderwood: Key to Brown's Hibs move
BROWN: CALDERWOOD KEY TO HIBS MOVE

Hibernian's new assistant manager Billy Brown revealed the crucial role boss Colin Calderwood played in bringing him to Easter Road.
Brown was a boyhood Hibs fan but had been closely associated with Edinburgh rivals Hearts, having two spells at Tynecastle under manager Jim Jefferies, the last of which ended when they departed in some controversy in August.
There was some surprise when Brown was announced as Calderwood's number two last week and he was in the dug-out for the 2-2 draw with Dunfermline at East End Park on Saturday.
Ahead of the Scottish Communities League Cup third-round clash with Motherwell at Fir Park on Tuesday night, Brown said: "Hibs phoned me in the first place but it was Colin that wanted me to come here.
"I met Colin after Hibs got in touch and it was done.
"If it hadn't been Colin's idea, I wouldn't have come.
"The manager and assistant have got to have the same mindset and I'm here because he wanted me to come here.
"I had met him over the years at games and had always found him a decent fellow and the reason he brought me here was after Derek Adams left he didn't have an assistant manager, he was maybe waiting for the right one to come up.
"I'm not short of experience, obviously, and maybe I'm exactly what he needed.
"But he's easy to take to and I don't think there will be any problems that way but the fact that we weren't the best of friends is awfully important in this situation."
Brown admits he is still getting used to life under a new boss.
"Nothing surprises you in football but I wouldn't have predicted this," he said.
"There is no doubt that after working with one man for 23 years, that a change is strange.
"It was a strange situation on Saturday to go into the dugout with Colin for the first time but one thing about Colin, he is a nice chap, he is easy to get on with and I'm sure we will develop a good relationship."
Hibs are only above bottom SPL side Inverness on goal difference but Brown will take stock of the situation at his new club before he delivers his verdict.
"I haven't been here long enough to see what's needed," he said.
"Obviously some changes are needed, you don't get into that position in the league through bad luck.
"But I was only here on Friday morning for a wee while and then at the game on Saturday.
"But there is no feeling of doom and gloom. All the players seem relaxed and happy.
"I've got to get my feet under the table and see what happens."
The former Bradford and Kilmarnock assistant is looking forward to the trip to Fir Park on Tuesday night.
He said: "At the end of the day, there are only three things you can win in Scotland.
"I've been to the final of the League Cup with Hearts and Kilmarnock, and lost both, so it is a major competition and the longer you stay in these competitions the more confidence it gives to everybody.
"Wouldn't it be great to move on? A win will get us into the quarter-final so it is a big game and we see it as an important game."

Jamie Langfield: Could make loan move
    LANGFIELD COULD BE LOANED OUT

Aberdeen manager Craig Brown may sanction a short-term loan move for goalkeeper Jamie Langfield to aid his return to action.
Langfield has not played so far this season after suffering a brain seizure in the summer and has yet to undergo a medical procedure.
However, Brown is keen to see the player challenge David Gonzalez and Jason Brown for the gloves and says a loan spell may help Langfield's progress.
The Dons boss said: "We've got to discount Jamie from starting as first choice at the moment until the procedure is over.
"Once that's done and he gets some games under his belt it's a three-way contest for first place in goal.
"A suitable short-term emergency loan of 28 days may get him four or five games with someone who maybe needs a goalkeeper short-term.
"But that's got to be suitable for both ourselves and for Jamie."
Meanwhile, Brown has warned his players that any complacency against East Fife in Tuesday night's Scottish Communities League Cup tie will be punished.
The Fifers are currently languishing at the bottom of the Irn-Bru Second Division but have already claimed an SPL scalp in the shape of local rivals Dunfermline in the cup competition.
Brown said: "When you're bottom of the league as they are, it's going to be difficult to come from where they are and get promotion.
"So what is their objective? The two cups. I'm not discounting them from winning the league or anything but it's more realistic that they can have a good cup run.
"They've already had good success, the local team in Fife beating Dunfermline. If we are complacent at all, we could pay for it."
Aberdeen secured a 6-0 win over East Fife in the Scottish Cup last season but Brown believes that scoreline flattered the Pittodrie side.
He added: "We are well aware that we've got a game on here.
"I've had a look at our cup game against them last season. More than half of their team are still around.
"Although we won in terms of goals very comfortably, the game was much more even than the score suggests.
"I'm expecting it will be a tough tie. There is a capability about East Fife that we've got to be concerned about."
