A youth environment conference, organised by the United Nations (UN) and held in Indonesia, is to be covered exclusively for young people by Al Jazeera Children's Channel (JCC).

Hayat Al Tahrir, JCC's news magazine, will have a team of seven young reporters in Bandung, interviewing participants and covering developments as 1,400 young environmentalists congregate to discuss options for a sustainable future.

Qatar's JCC is the only children's channel invited to report from the UN Environment Programme's International Children and Youth Conference (TUNZA), which runs from 27 September to 1 October.

Two age groups will be represented at the event – those aged between 10 and 14, and those from 15 to 25. Fifteen young people from the Arab world will participate in this year's TUNZA.

"A healthy environment is crucial for our children's future, and the role of JCC in children's media is instrumental," said Mahmoud Bouneb, executive general manager, JCC. "The United Nations demonstrates serious efforts to support the noble cause of healing mother earth, through the organisation of TUNZA conference annually.

"It makes us proud to be invited by this respectable body to attend and contribute to this conference; as well as spread its message to the whole world," he concluded.

An Hayat Al Tahrir special will be broadcast by JCC on 2 October. The channel is available free to air to satellite viewers across the Arab world and parts of Europe via Arabsat, Nilesat, Eutelsat Hotbird and Eurobird.
