Juan Pablo Conti ©RapidTVNews | 28-09-2011Argentine MSO Cablevisión has announced that its Paraguayan subsidiary (also called Cablevisión) will add a series of premium TV channels produced by HBO and Moviecitie to its digital line-up.
Available from the 1st of October, the new channels will be marketed under three different premium packages: Pack HBO (which will include four HBO channels plus HBO HD), Pack HBO+ (ten HBO channels plus HBO HD) and Pack Moviecity (seven Movicity channels plus Moviecity HD).
Federico Canónigo, commercial director for Moviecity's Southern Cone region, revealed that Moviecity Play, the TV Everywhere product that the company has been offering in other Latin American countries, will also be available to Cablevisión subscribers in Paraguay – although he fell short of saying when exactly the service would be launched.
In Argentina, Cablevisión was the first cable operator in Latin America to introduce Moviecity Play. The company's Paraguayan subsidiary remains the country's largest pay-TV service provider with 115,000 video subscribers and less than 10,000 customers for its Fibertel broadband product.
The investment required to introduce the latest bouquets of premium channels was US$150,000. During the next five years, Cablevisión plans to increase its total investment in Paraguay to US$26 million. The funds will be spent to improve network infrastructure, install new headend equipment and acquire HD set-top boxes, according to the operator's general manager Enrique Cazaña.
