AOC aims at Latam’s connected TV market
Juan Pablo Conti ©RapidTVNews | 05-10-2011TPV Technology, the flat screen manufacturer behind the AOC brand, has provided further evidence of how confident OEMs are regarding the appetite of Latin American consumers for high-end TVs.
The Taiwanese vendor is launching a new family of Internet TVs designed specifically for users in the region. At the heart of the electronic circuitry powering the new line of connected TVs lies the HiDTV Pro-SXL microchip, supplied by Trident Microsystems.
This is not the first time the two companies have worked together. Last year, as the AOC brand was being introduced to the Brazilian market, the OEM was shipping its flat screen TVs with a similar system-on-a-chip (SoC) inside them.
The difference this time, according to the Silicon Valley firm, is that the new platform (HiDTV Pro-SXL, as opposed to HiDTV Pro-SX1) will provide TPV with enough design scalability to address different segments of the DTV market – from standard digital TVs to screens supporting full IP capabilities.
If it decided to couple the new SoC with Trident's MEMC (motion estimation/motion compensation) technology, AOC would be able to extend the same design to address the high-end 120Hz market, the chipmaker claimed.
"Our solution enables the delivery of cloud-based services including on demand video, music and games to the living room, bringing a rich array of multimedia content in the large screen form factor," said Dirk Wieberneit, general manager of TV at Trident.
"We appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with TPV for the development of their platform and are happy to contribute to their successful penetration of the fast-growing South American markets," he added.
