Spain’s main media group Canal+’s Grupo Prisa will be able to breath better from now on as its huge debt will be helped by an injection capital of €150 million given by the company Timón and the American fund Liberty.
Through this operation, a total of 75 million warrants will be distributed for buyout and sale of shares. The announcement caused the company’s shares to rise 13% in the Madrid’s Stock Exchange yesterday.
According to the Shares National Market Commission (CNMV), Timón controls more than 60% of Prisa, and Liberty Acquisition Holding will together create a joint-venture, each holding 50%.
Grupo Prisa operates in 22 countries other than Spain, especially in Latin America, through its editorial division Santillana and its stake in Colombia’s Grupo Caracol and the Grupo Latino de Radio, which on its side operates in other Latin American countries such as Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica and Panamá.
