Portugal begins campaign for satellite-based DTT
Iñaki Ferreras ©RapidTVNews | 17-10-2011Following the success of land based digital terrestrial television (DTT), the Portuguese national communication association ANACOM is to enter a campaign to publicise services via satellite.
The government's plan is to cover the whole country with the DTT by the end of October 2011. Portugal has chosen DTH distribution for those areas where the terrestrial TV cannot reach and the first regions that will offer DTT over DTH platforms will be Famalicâo (in the province of Nazaré) and Alfeizerâo (in the province of Alcobaça).
However the regulator believes that a communications campaign is necessary as it calculates that only 30% of the population know that they need a satellite receiver to obtain DTT.
