Cablevisión, Argentina's largest cable TV operator, has expanded its digital lineup with the launch a new sports channel.
Fox Sports+, the third 24-hour channel from Fox Sports Latinoamérica, went "on air" yesterday on channel 107 of the Grupo Clarín's MSO. The American broadcaster's two other channels addressing the Southern Cone (Fox Sports and Fox Sports HD) were already part of Cablevisión's basic and HD packages.
Introduced in the region in 2009, Fox Sports+'s original aim was to broadcast a second live UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League game on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Then, in mid-2011, its programming was extended to become a 24-hour sports channel.
At least for the time being, the channel will be available to Cablevisión's digital subscribers only.
The move will allow Fox Sports Latinoamérica to match its main rival network in the region, ESPN, which already had three of its Latin American channels (ESPN, ESPN+ and ESPN HD) on the Argentine MSO's lineup.
Unlike ESPN, though, Fox Sports is yet to launch a TV Everywhere platform in the region if it is to follow the lead set by ESPNplay.com.
