    Mick McCarthy: Pleased with backing
MICK McCARTHY: I HAVE BOARD BACKING

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy insists he retains the support of club hierarchy ahead of Sunday's bottom-four clash against Wigan at Molineux.
McCarthy came under fire from some fans after the recent home draw against Swansea, to which the Wolves boss responded by labelling his critics "mindless idiots".
Wolves have picked up only one point from the last seven games, but McCarthy is confident club owner Steve Morgan and chief executive Jez Moxey continue to trust him - in the same way Latics boss Roberto Martinez enjoys the support of chairman Dave Whelan despite a run of seven straight defeats.
"The support I have from Steve and Jez and everybody has always been at its strongest when it has been tough," said McCarthy.
"Whenever it has been tough, I've had great support. That's really great to have - and I'm sure Roberto feels the same at Wigan with the backing he gets."
McCarthy is aware Wolves have to regain the winning touch after their poor run.
He said: "We just need to win a game and Sunday is our next opportunity.
"We just need that feeling of winning games because we haven't had it for a while.
"The players are working their socks off and we try to keep the self belief up and tell them it will turn around."

    Kenny Shiels: Extends Boyce trial
    KILLIE EXTEND BOYCE TRIAL PERIOD

Kilmarnock manager Kenny Shiels has extended Liam Boyce's trial period with the club as the player continues his bid to win a contract with the Ayrshire side.
The 20-year-old striker is looking for a new club after being released by German outfit Werder Bremen, who he joined last year from Cliftonville.
He was initially handed two weeks to impress at Killie but Shiels wants longer to cast his eye over his fellow Northern Irishman.
The manager said: "He played in a practice game but we need more time with him so we're going to have to extend the period. I've spoken to him about that.
"His match sharpness needs to be improved and then we can assess him better.
"It's between windows and, maybe if it had been January he had become available, we wouldn't have had as long with him.
"It's good timing for us as it means he can spend more time with us to help us make our decision."
Shiels believes Boyce would be keen on the switch to Kilmarnock.
He added: "He likes the club, he likes the people and he feels that there is a good group of lads here. He feels comfortable in this environment."
Meanwhile, Shiels is still waiting for confirmation of the venue for Kilmarnock's Scottish Communities League Cup semi-final against local rivals Ayr United.
He was initially keen on playing the game in Edinburgh but now wants the Scottish Football League to opt for Hampden instead.
Shiels said: "Someone told me the decision will be made this week but we haven't heard anything yet.
"It's probably going to be Hampden. Thinking about it in the cold light of day, (that's best) for the supporters."

Jos Hooiveld: Unsure where future lies

Southampton defender Jos Hooiveld admits he is in the dark over his future with his loan deal set to expire at the end of January.
The Dutchman has been a big success at St Mary's since boss Nigel Adkins brought him down from Celtic in September, and scored his third goal of the season in Tuesday's 2-1 win over Peterborough.
Saints are now five points clear at the top but Hooiveld still does not know whether he will be around to be part of their promotion bid over the second half of the season.
"So far I'm really, really enjoying myself here and everything is going how it should be," he told Saints Player.
"I think the gaffer is pleased with me and I'm very pleased to be here, so I remain open on staying, but I've not heard anything about it yet."

Andy Thorn: Looking for loan signing
THORN GIVEN FUNDS FOR LOAN SIGNING

Coventry manager Andy Thorn has been given funds to finally bring a loan signing to the struggling npower Championship club.
Thorn saw his squad decimated in the summer but was only able to bring in one outfield player in the form of striker Cody McDonald, who arrived along with goalkeepers Joe Murphy and Chris Dunn.
Immediately following the closure of the summer transfer window, owners SISU promised the Sky Blues boss support in the emergency loan market and, after a long wait, that support now looks to be coming.
Thorn will use his money to add an experienced player to his young ranks. He told the club's official website: "There is now some money there to get a loan but it is expensive still. We will be looking in a certain market to add some experience to the squad.
"I have been offered a few young players but we already have that and I don't feel adding another young player to the squad is what we need at the moment. If I can get someone in within the budget I have been given then it will be good for us. Obviously, we aren't going to rush into it as I will only be bringing one in."
He added: "I want to get it done soon and I have already been offered a couple of players from a Premier League manager I used to play with but it is all about making the right choice."
