Penthouse heats up LatAm’s premium TV market
Juan Pablo Conti ©RapidTVNews | 05-11-2011Argentine production company Claxon has added the Penthouse brand to the portfolio of adult channels it already redistributes throughout the Latin American pay-TV market.
According to Penthouse, its regional offering will include not only a standard linear programming channel but also branded video-on-demand (VOD) and pay-per-view (PPV) services.
Fourteen pay-TV operators in eight different countries have already acquired the content rights to carry the channel, with Penthouse claiming "several other" platforms and territories will be expanding its footprint in the continent in the upcoming months.
Other plans the company hopes to implement in the near future include the launch of both high-definition (HD) and 3D versions of its channel.
Claxson is something of a pioneer in the production and distribution of 3D adult content. Back in 2010, the Argentine company became the first in the world to distribute Playboy TV programming in 3D – in a production shot entirely in Latin America.
Claxson and Penthouse began their co-branding and licensing negotiations for the adult channel – which has enjoyed success in the European market recently – in September 2011.
Other adult-oriented, premium TV channels in Claxson's portfolio include the already-mentioned Playboy TV, Playboy HD and Playboy 3D, as well as Venus, Venus HD, Sextreme, Private, ForMan and Hot Shots
