Over-the-top (OTT) service provider Netflix has redesigned its Latin American access homepage to include a section featuring content for kids only.
The new section, which users access through a tab called "just for kids" on the top of the screen, groups together those animated series and films rated as a 12-Certificate that were already available on the OTT platform.
Once in the kids-friendly section, the little ones can choose what specific content they are going to watch by selecting from a list of icons showing popular characters such SpongeBob, Dora the Explorer or Elmo.
"Kids have their own way of choosing the series and movies they want to watch, and it's very different from the way adults do," said David Watson, director of product innovation, Kids, at Netflix. "We decided to make the experience of using Netflix simpler for kids, while at the same time guaranteeing to parents that their children are watching adequate series and movies," he added.
Netflix's current Latin American catalogue – which remains the subject of much criticism from those complaining of a lack of sufficiently local and appealing content – includes titles such as 101 Dalmatians, Babar the Elephant, Monsters, Inc and Toy Story 1 and 2.
According to the company, nearly half of the 20 million subscribers it has around the world watched at least two kids films or animated series during the past three months.
