€300M revenues forecast for French catch-up TV market
Pascale Paoli-Lebailly ©RapidTVNews | 12-12-2011French catch-up TV market revenues are set to reach €300 million by 2015, 4.5 times more than today, forecasts NPA Conseil.
In its new survey, “Le Marché de la catch-up TV en France : stratégies, enjeux et valorisation” the analyst says that catch-up usage will increase on both IPTV and connected TV platforms as well as on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.
NPA believes that French advertisers will be more attracted by catch-up TV as the market has grown strongly over the last five years, extending to DTT channels and now many theme channels. In the same time, services have also migrated from a PC environment to TV and other screens.
“ The number of programmes available has also significantly risen, mostly regarding the line-up proposed by historical networks » such as TF1 (MyTF1), France Télévisions (Pluzz) Arte (Arte+7) and M6 (M6Replay),” the report says.
Though helped by a regulatory framework based on cooperation between broadcasters and producers, NPA points out catch-up’s biggest weakness comes from the lack of feature films.
The company warns that public expectations are rather high for this kind of services : the number of consumers rose 31 % over one year, to reach an average of 10 TV shows watched each month in 2011. Screenings on a TV set are representing a quarter of catch-up consumption.
