Daniel Majstorovic: Has undergone cheekbone surgery

    MAJSTOROVIC TO MISS SIX WEEKS

Celtic defender Daniel Majstorovic on Monday underwent surgery on the fractured cheekbone he sustained in the 2-0 win against St Johnstone on Sunday and will be out for six weeks, the Glasgow club confirmed on their official website.
The Sweden defender had to go off in the first half at McDiarmid Park following a challenge on Saints midfielder David Robertson, who was also replaced soon after.
Majstorovic's operation was successful but it could be early February before he can return to training.
"Daniel Majstorovic underwent surgery yesterday, on the fractured cheekbone he suffered in the 2-0 win against St Johnstone on Sunday," the club statement read on Tuesday.
"The operation went well, but he now faces six weeks on the sidelines before he can return to training."
Meanwhile, midfielder Joe Ledley has returned to training after recovering from an ankle injury and will be available for selection this weekend for the home game against Kilmarnock.
Striker Anthony Stokes and midfielder Paddy McCourt, who both picked up slight calf strains, along with defender Adam Matthews, who suffered a twisted ankle, will return to training later this week. Saturday's match, however, is likely to come too early for the trio.
Midfielder Kris Commons is set to resume training on Monday after overcoming a thigh strain. Defender Glenn Loovens, who tweaked his right hamstring against Hearts 10 days ago, will also return to training later next week.
Manager Neil Lennon also heard good news regarding Mark Wilson's knee injury.
The defender has made good progressed since undergoing surgery earlier in the season. Medical staff have been impressed by his recovery and he will return to training in the first week of January.

    Asmir Begovic: Staying at Stoke

    DOUBLE BOOST FOR STOKE

Stoke have announced that goalkeepers Asmir Begovic and Thomas Sorensen have both signed new deals with the club.
Danish shot-stopper Sorensen has committed himself to another two-and-a-half years, taking him through to 2014.
Begovic, meanwhile, has agreed a four-and-a-half-year deal, with the Potters considering him to be their long-term number one.
News of the agreements means Stoke remain well-stocked in the keeping department, with both men experienced international performers.
Tony Pulis is understandably delighted to have seen the deals pushed through, with the Potters determined to continue on their upward path.
"It's fantastic news that we have settled the immediate futures of our two main goalkeepers," he told the club's official website.
"It's important to have good competition for places in all areas of the squad and nowhere is it better than there.
"In Asmir, I believe we have the best young goalkeeper in England who has shown his great potential since he came to the club and he certainly has a big part to play in our future as we look to continue the progress we have made.
"As I have stated before, though, it is also important to look after those who have got us where we are today, and Thomas has been a major influence upon what we have achieved.
"He has been an outstanding professional who has thrived upon the challenge now facing him and I am delighted to have secured his experience."
Pulis added: "When you are looking to build something, you need a solid base and we are fortunate to have two top, top keepers, not forgetting, of course, that there is also Carlo (Nash) as a more than capable deputy waiting in the wings."

Jack Rodwell: Not set for Chelsea switch

    MOYES REJECTS RODWELL TRANSFER TALK

Everton manager David Moyes has dismissed speculation linking Chelsea with a £20million bid for midfielder Jack Rodwell.
Reports have suggested the England Under-21 international, who made his debut for Fabio Capello's senior squad last month, is a priority target for Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas when the transfer window opens in January.
Moyes, however, insists there has been no contact from Stamford Bridge regarding the 20-year-old, who has played just 27 minutes of Premier League football since matches against Spain and Sweden.
"I have had no offers, no contact from Chelsea - there would not be any other words I could add to that," said the Scot.
"There is nothing from me. We've had no phone call."
Everton's difficult financial situation has been well documented with chairman Bill Kenwright still trying to find a buyer for the club.
They signed only two loan players in August having sold Mikel Arteta, Jermaine Beckford and Ayegbeni Yakubu for about £16million.
While that may make other clubs feel Everton are vulnerable to big-money offers for their best players Moyes has reiterated his stance that no-one would be sold on the cheap.
"We've always said if anyone wants to bid for the players we can't stop that happening but what we do do is sell expensively," he said.
"If we are sellers we are always expensive sellers."
Rodwell has been ruled out of Wednesday night's home match against Swansea with a hamstring injury he aggravated in the warm-up against Norwich on Saturday which prevented him from being able to come off the bench.
Moyes also confirmed his interest in Cliftonville teenager Rory Donnelly, who has also been linked with neighbours Liverpool while Swansea have had a £100,000 bid accepted already.
"We are in there trying to see what the situation is," added Moyes.
"The chairman spoke with their chairman there so we are around that as well.
"I am hoping to be able to add to the squad if I can but we don't have bundles of cash so we'll try to do what we can and look to an alternative market to try to get players in."
Everton's record against the promoted teams this season is poor as they were beaten at Goodison Park by QPR in their first match of the campaign and only salvaged a draw against Norwich at the weekend nine minutes from time.
"We had Norwich just recently, we have already played QPR and have only taken a point from the two of them at home so we have to be very aware of Swansea," added Moyes.
"Swansea as a club have done great; Brendan Rodgers has come in and done remarkably well to get them promoted but Roberto (Martinez) was in for a while, Paulo Sousa was in for a bit and they have created an identity and style for the club.
"I don't think they are under-estimated by Premier League teams because they are probably the highest passing team outside the top one or two.
"And it is impressive for a team to be promoted and be so strong defensively (Swansea have had eight clean sheets) because you tend to find that is sometimes the failing."
