The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has announced new privacy restrictions on what TV news broadcasters are allowed to show.
The privacy guidelines were introduced in 2005, but a review was prompted in 2008, when a Channel Ten news report showed a bereaved man sobbing after his parents were killed in a boating accident.
ACMA chairmanvChris Chapman said: “The new guidelines are principles-based and include new case studies based on the ACMA’s investigations into broadcasting privacy complaints.”
‘‘The aim is to further increase awareness of code privacy obligations developed by industry in broadcasting codes of practice and to assist broadcasters to better understand these obligations”.
