Chile leading LatAm’s IPTV

Research has revealed that Chile is the lead country in Latin America for broadcast networks, boasting broadband speeds with connection rates above 2 Mbps, according to the latest 'Worldwide Internet Report'.

Such rates are necessary for online TV transmissions such as IPTV and over the top online TV services which as a result are increasing exponentially in Latin America.
According to the 2011 Worldwide Internet Report released by Akamai, 80% of the internet connections in Chile are above 2 Mbps, making it an ideal market for online TV. Chile is followed by Panama (65%), Colombia (63%), Mexico (59%) and Argentina (37%).
As far as connections above 5Mbps go, Chile is once again the leader with 8.2%, followed by Argentina with 6.1%, Brazil with 5.5%, Colombia with 4.1% and Mexico with 3%.
By way of comparison, the US records 81% of accesses above 2 Mbps, and 45% above 5 Mbps.
