DirecTV adds TV Everywhere to Android app

DirecTV has issued an update for its Android app that enables streaming video on demand (VOD).

The TV Everywhere Watch on Phone menu now offers a list of movies and TV shows that can be played either on a phone or tablet running the Google OS. In addition to basic cable nets, programming from HBO, Cinemax, Starz and Encore is available for subscribers. And, a premium DirecTV Cinema portal offers movie rentals.

Unlike many of its rivals' TV Everywhere apps, DirecTV subscribers can watch video streams over Wi-Fi and 3G.

An updated iOS app with the streaming functionality will be available soon, the compant said.
