Telefónica's subsidiary in Brazil earns 15.2% less in Q1

Telefónica's subsidiary in Brazil earned 956.6 million reals (£303m) in the first quarter of 2012, which represents a drop of 15.2% over the same period last year.
During the first three months of the year, Telefónica Brazil has achieved operating income of BRL 8,314.3 million, representing an increase of 3.7% compared with BRL 8.017 million in the same period last year.
Meanwhile, the gross operating profit (EBITDA) of Telefónica Brazil improved by 0.3% toBRL 2846.3 million, with an EBITDA margin of 34.2% compared with 35.2% during the same period in 2011.
The company has increased its wireless access by 20.5% to 74.78 million with 16.62 million customers of post-paid and 58.16 million users of pre-paid lines.
The company has highlighted as significant the integration of the Vivo brand, previously included in the mobile business, with fixed segment and organisational restructuring between the two areas.
