Spain’s House of Congress has ratified the decree law amending the governance of the Corporation RTVE, which gives way for the PP to designate the president of the public corporation without a majority of two thirds of the House.

Until the adoption of this measure, according to the rules of 2006 of RTVE, the election of President of the Corporation was agreed by a qualified majority of two-thirds of the House, that is, an agreement between the PP and the PSOE.

The decree approves the reduction of board members from 12 to nine, a move that saves €342,000 gross per year, given that the gross annual salary of council members for 2012 amounted to €114,000.
IU spokesman Richard Sixto has warned that this decree deserves an appeal to the Constitutional Court, and said the "real target" executive "take direct control" of the direction of public broadcasting. "The alleged savings is just a bad excuse exploiting the grim economic times we live in," he added.
Uxue Barkos of Geroa Bai said that the decree will mean the "party control" of RTVE, while in his opinion, the current model until now in force "walked to the professional independence", referencing other European channels.
