    Francisco Arce: Sacked

    ARCE SACKED BY PARAGUAY

Paraguay have parted company with national team coach Francisco Arce.
Arce, 41, took charge of Paraguay last year following the resignation of Gerardo Martino who stepped down soon after leading his side to the Copa America final, where they lost to Uruguay.
Paraguay, who under Martino also reached their first-ever World Cup quarter-final in South Africa in 2010, have suffered a dismal start to their 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign, and currently lie second bottom of the CONMEBOL group having picked up just four points from their opening five matches.

Their latest setback came on Saturday when they were beaten 3-1 in La Paz by a Bolivia side who had previously earned only one point from five games.
Paraguay football association (APF) president Juan Angel Napout told reporters at a press conference: "We are going through a difficult moment for us. Analysing the situation, the executive committee have decided to terminate the contract of the coach Francisco Arce."
Napout said the APF were in discussions about Arca's replacement and that an announcement would be named in due course.
Paraguay's next scheduled match is a friendly with China in August before they resume their World Cup qualifiers against Argentina in September.

Robert Huth: Extends Stoke deal until 2016

ROBERT HUTH AGREES NEW STOKE DEAL

Defender Robert Huth has signed a three-year contract extension to remain at Stoke until 2016.
Huth has become an intergral figure at the heart of the Stoke defence since his then club-record £6million move from Middlesbrough in 2009, as Stoke have established themselves in the Barclays Premier League.
"I am delighted that it has all been sorted out before the start of the season," he said.
"I've had a fantastic time here, the best three years of my career. It's been great to play a big part in the club's progress over that period, but also to gain some personal recognition with the Player-of-Year awards which I won at the end of the last two seasons."

"I have ambitions in the game and I am relishing the chance to achieve them here at this football club, so I can't wait for the new season to come around."
Stoke boss Tony Pulis hailed the impact of Huth, who still had a year to run on his contract, after 130 appearances for the Britannia Stadium club.
"Huthy stands out as one of the best signings this club has made since we were promoted to the Premier League, so it's fantastic news that he is staying put for the long term," he said.

"It's a massive boost for us all and I know our supporters will be especially pleased because they have really taken to him since he joined us.
"They love the committed way he approaches the game and that is one of his many attributes."

Charles Green: Will default to a newco option

RANGERS FANS WARNING FOR SPL CLUBS

Rangers Supporters Assembly vice-president Ross Blyth has warned Scottish Premier League clubs they cannot afford to block a newco Rangers' admission to the top-flight.
The Ibrox side have been consigned to liquidation after Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs revealed plans to reject a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA), which will be voted on by creditors on Thursday.
Charles Green's Sevco consortium will now default to a newco option to complete their purchase of the stricken Glasgow giants, whose entry to the SPL will be subject to a vote by all 12 clubs.
Blyth believes there is support within the Ibrox faithful for the club to seek registration with the Scottish Football League instead and start afresh in the Irn-Bru Third Division.
But he says the SPL without Rangers could have a detrimental impact on Scotland's other top teams.
He told Press Association Sport: "They've got a huge decision to make.
"But the way the world is economically just now, and football and Scottish football especially, these guys can't really afford to do without Rangers and the income and revenue that Rangers generate through commercial and TV deals, sponsorship deals and travelling fans to the games.
"Unfortunately, some don't look likely to vote in our favour anymore because we challenged the SFA transfer ban in the courts. This might go against us now.
"There is a case that we could lose out on the 8-4 vote or they could put some sanctions or changes in place to allow us back in so that we are really going cap in hand for them to do us a favour.

"I think they will pull out all the stops. If they are going to let Rangers back in, it will be on their terms - changing the voting structure, fines and sanctions for the club.
"And that's the positives. The negative would obviously be not allowing Rangers back into the SPL and having to seek a registration from the SFL to start again in the Third Division."
On a move to the SFL, Blyth added: "A lot of fans are suggesting that we just voluntarily go to the SFL.
"We are losing a huge income stream over the next three years of having no European football.
"We will probably have to sell the high-calibre players, the high earners, to generate income.
"They probably won't want to stick around either, with no European football for at least three years.

"So are we any better off being in the SPL than we would be in the SFL anyway?
"The SFL clubs might welcome the chance to have Rangers.
"They would negotiate pretty good sponsorship and TV deals with Rangers in that league and it would give them some guaranteed income.
"No doubt they would welcome Rangers, although hopefully Rangers would only be passing through to the next division and so on.
"I'm not sure how much that would damage Rangers but it's certainly an avenue that the fans are suggesting the club go down."
According to a statement from HMRC, "liquidation provides the best opportunity to protect taxpayers, by allowing the potential investigation and pursuit of possible claims against those responsible for the company's financial affairs in recent years."
Blyth is "100%" behind an investigation but acknowledges that any probes carried out by the tax authorities will come too late to make any difference to the club now.
He said: "I note that HMRC are suggesting they are going to take to task the people who have got us into this position.
"We are 100% behind that. It is very important that they are brought to task.
"But the outcome of that isn't going to affect the club going forward unfortunately.
"Whatever happens to these guilty people isn't going to affect us coming out of administration quicker or what division we are playing in or get us back into European football sadly."
He added: "It's a pretty catastrophic day for the club. We have been in administration for four months and we have had a lot of dark days in that time.
"This is another huge, bad day for the club again.
"As shocking as it might be, it's not too much of a surprise actually to some people that the CVA has been unsuccessful.
"We've got a few big hurdles ahead now."

    Tim Cahill: Uncertain future
ASIAN CLUBS QUEUE UP FOR CAHILL

The future of Everton midfielder Tim Cahill remains unclear after clubs in Saudi Arabia and China became the latest to make a move for the Australia international.
Reports have suggested Saudi club Al Hilal have made a multi-million pound offer to lure the midfielder to the Middle East while Press Association Sport understands Chinese side Guizho Renhe have made an official approach to the 32-year-old.

Last week Cahill turned down turned down a 16 million dollar (£10.3million) three-year deal from an unnamed club in Saudi Arabia.
The midfielder, who played a starring role in Australia's 1-1 draw in their World Cup qualifier against group leaders Japan on Monday, has made no secret of his desire to one day play in the Middle East.
He has two years remaining on his contract at Goodison Park and is happy at the club he joined in 2004 but it is believed he would consider a move overseas.

Harry Redknapp: Quit rumours are not true

    REDKNAPP REJECTS EXIT RUMOURS

Harry Redknapp has denied speculation that he has resigned as Tottenham boss, describing the rumours as "scandalous".
Redknapp was moved to discredit a wave of speculation on Tuesday evening in which it was claimed he had quit with a year still to run on his Spurs contract.
Negotiations over a new deal have stalled since the start of the year when the 65-year-old was linked with the then vacant England manager's job.
In the past week Redknapp has made it known he would be uncomfortable heading into the new season without a longer deal while also defending his relationship with chairman Daniel Levy.

And the former Portsmouth boss was again forced on the back foot this evening as he denied more exit rumours, telling ESPN: "No, I haven't resigned, and I have no idea why it is being suggested that I have resigned.
"This is an outrage; an absolute liberty for people to be putting around this kind of rumour on the internet.
"It is not true, there is not a chance I will resign. Why should I?
"I have a year left on my contract."
Earlier this week Redknapp denied suggestions he was being courted by a club in Qatar after telling Tottenham to speed up negotiations to keep him at White hart Lane.

"The simple situation is, I've got a year left on my contract. It's up to Tottenham whether they want to extend that contract or not," he said.
"If they don't extend it and I go into my last year, it's not an easy one when players know you've only got a year left.
"It's not a case of me looking for security. What it's about is players knowing you've only got one year left on your contract and knowing that it doesn't work, basically.
"I think it's a situation of, 'well, he might not be here next year'.

"You don't let players run into the last year of their contract if you think they're any good, and you don't let managers run into the last year of their contract if you think they're any good.
"It's up to Tottenham. If they think I'm okay and I've done a decent job and deserve an extension, they'll give it to me.
"If Daniel doesn't think I'm worth it, that's up to him, that's up to the club. There's nothing I can do about it."
