The CC.OO, a leading Spanish trades union, has joined the global campaign in defence of public broadcasting which will culminate in a forthcoming landmark event.
The union has called on citizens to reject all attempts to destroy public television and radio, to support the public broadcasters to be aware that it is a valuable service that provides information and cultural entertainment for all.
The background to the event could not be bleaker for workers in the Spanish public broadcast workers given the budget cuts stifling production, layoffs and announcements of privatisation of some regional channels.
Workers at other leading broadcast organisations such as the BBC, France Televisions, RAI, RTL, ARD, ZDF, RTP, EPT / ERT will take part in similar protests.
