Mediapro accused by NCC of 'misinforming' Spain’s government

Spain’s National Competition Commission (CNC) has initiated disciplinary proceedings against national private broadcaster laSexta’s owner Mediapro for alleged "breach of duty to co-operate" and to inject "incomplete and misleading information", the regulator said in a statement.


The Council of the NCC commissioned the Research Division in April 2010 to monitor compliance of a resolution passed at that time on anti-competitive behaviour. As part of this monitoring, it has collected information from the company directed by Jaume Roures, which believes it could have been "incomplete and misleading." This behaviour, which now opens disciplinary proceedings by CNC, is classified as a minor offence under Article 62.2.c) of the Law on Competition.
The regulator clarified that the opening of this record does not prejudge the final outcome of the investigation. It opens up a maximum of one month for the investigation of the case and its resolution by the Council of the NCC. The agency opened another file to Mediapro mid May, to sign contracts for football rights over three years with the FC Barcelona, Sevilla and Racing Santander football clubs.
