French TV exports diversify

In 2011, international sales of French TV programmes increased by 4.8% to reach 110.6 million, a 5.1% increase compared with 2010.
The total figure of TV exports including sales and presales has increased by 12.9% to 153.6 million as stated by the 2011 report released by Frances Centre national du cinema (CNC) and export association TV France International in Biarritz, on the occasion of the 18th Rendez-Vous.
International presales and coproductions of French TV programmes increased significantly over 2011. Presales increased by 40.9% to 43.0 million, the highest level since 2002. Coproductions are still increasing rapidly (+23.3%) with 77.4 million, the highest level since 2004.
In 2011, sales rose in all genres but continue to be led by animation which reached 35.3 million, up 1.6% in comparison with 2010.Documentary sales are increasing, to 27.1 million (+2.6 %). International fiction sales are also growing (+4.5 % to 20.0 million), as well as formats sales rising from 17.2 million in 2010 to 19.8 million (+15.4 %).
The growth of newly created DTT channels has reversed the decreasing trend of license fees of the last few years. The new media incomes still remain marginal, but 2011 shows significant a breakthrough as far as VOD and IPTV are concerned.
