The Anaheim Ducks signed young defenseman Cam Fowler to a five-year contract extension, the club announced Saturday.
Helene Elliott of the Los Angeles Times reported Fowler's deal, which will begin starting with the 2013-14 season, is worth $4 million per season. Fowler had 10 goals and 40 points in his rookie season, but his production slipped to five tallies and 29 points during his sophomore campaign in 2011-12.
The 12th pick in the 2010 NHL Draft, Fowler would have been a restricted free agent after the 2012-13 season, and this deal buys out one year of unrestricted free agency under the current Collective Bargaining Agreement
