With three weeks to go until the deadline, India's government has said that 77% of cable TV digitisation has been achieved in the country's four cities.
In the lead with 99% digitisation is Mumbai, followed by Kolkata at 73%, Delhi at 66% and Chennai at 59%.
Taking into consideration the progress made by direct-to-home (DTH) in these four metros, the overall level of digitisation has gone up to 84%, the government said in a statement.
The government is aiming at completing digitisation of the cable sector in the four cities by 31 October and in the rest of the country by December 2014.
