The world's largest Spanish-language broadcaster, Televisa, saw third-quarter profit rise 41% to $220 million from $2.02 billion one year earlier, driven by customer gains.
The Sky Mexico satellite business snagged 332,693 subscribers for a total of 4.88 million, and Televisa's three cable-TV units in that country added around 30,000 video customers for a total of 2.26 million. Revenue in the satellite television business rose 18%, while the cable and telecommunications units jumped 19%. T
he gains helped offset softening in broadcast advertising sales, which rose only 1% year-over-year to reach 6.12 billion pesos, missing estimates.
Revenue in the television content business, which includes advertising, rose 5.6% overall. Sales of programming and program licensing were up 11%.
