Brazil’s pay-TV plateaus

Data from the Brazilian agency Nacional de Telecomunicações (ANATEL) has shown that even though the market at September 2012 was up 29.5% with 3.5 million new customers in a year compared with a year earlier, on a monthly basis it has risen only by 1.84%.
September 2012 ended with more than 15.4 million pay-TV subscribers 59.45% of whom take satellite TV services. Monthly satellite growth was 2.6% resulting in 231 600 new subscriptions. Cable TV now accounts for 39.46% of customers but grew by only 0.9%, 53,200 new subscriptions, in the month.
Net was the operator with the largest share of the pay-TV market (34.06%), followed by Sky (30.98%) and Claro (18.98%). Telefónica accounted for just 3.99% and Oi (3.92%).
