Colombia’s National Television Authority (ANTV) has awarded, through resolution 179, a total of 21 licences for the provision of subscription TV services nationwide, renewing existing authorizations as well as enabling new operators to enter the market.
This is a new type of licence, instrumented by ANTV 'in response to the fact that the pay-TV industry is being developed convergent with other telecommunications services', a process that was said to be limiting the number of providers considering the population criterion. Therefore, the licence enables operators to work nationally on 'the operation, development and delivery of a subscription TV service,’ said the Authority.
