Free Satellite TV scam ?

I came across a website that claims it has developed a piece of software that allows you to "watch hundreds of LIVE worldwide TV channels on your PC, free of charge". It claims it requires no hardware or TV card to work and is 100% legal. You only need a broadband internet connection. It states and I quote, "the software acts as your own little cable company and grabs the TV signals directly from the TV channel's servers".
You can buy the program for about $50 AUD with no other fees ever.

Pardon me for being naive, but that just sounds too good to be true and sounds like a scam.
Does anyone know about this software and why would TV stations stream their TV programs through PC servers connected to the internet, for free?
Please explain.

Beware , after it being highly recommended by a so called mate , the program for free tv was B.S ,....... all it did was freeze the computer up , If you download this program you do it , at on your own PERIL.
I'am still mad about it. .
