    BELLINGHAM THE REAL DEAL
Real Madrid are confident they will win the race for Jude Bellingham's signature in the upcoming summer transfer window.

That's according to the Daily Mirror, with a host of clubs interested in bringing in the midfielder following his performances for Borussia Dortmund.

The 19-year-old has scored seven goals across 20 Bundesliga and Champions League appearances - that coming from a total of 5.2 xG.

His 3.2 tackles per league game average is also the third-highest among regular starters in Germany's top-flight, and any deal is likely to command a huge fee.

    Friday's Paper Talk
    ON THIS DAY...
FIVE years ago, Barcelona completed the signing of Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool in a deal worth a total £142m. Will we see a similar fee paid out this month?

The attacking midfielder would make 106 appearances for the La Liga club, scoring 25 goals and assisting a further 14.

Loan spells at Bayern Munich and Aston Villa towards end of his time in Spain highlights that the deal failed to come close to reaching the potential of the fee - with Coutinho joining the latter on a permanent deal last summer.

    MORNING!
The first Friday of the January transfer window is upon us.

There's a couple of deals we are expecting to happen today - with Jack Butland heading to Manchester United while Norwich could announce the appointment of David Wagner.

We'll keep you updated with everything throughout the day.

    BAYERN ADD BLIND
After his contract was terminated by Ajax earlier this week, Daley Blind has signed for Bayern Munich.

Dutch international Blind will be with the German champions until the end of the season.

TEN HAG STRESSES THREE KEEPER NEED
Erik ten Hag emphasised the importance of having three experienced goalkeepers as the Dutchman revealed Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Jack Butland.

Martin Dubravka’s season-long loan at Old Trafford abruptly ended after he was recalled by Newcastle, leaving Tom Heaton as the only understudy to first-choice David de Gea in United’s first team.

“We need a squad with three experienced goalkeepers,” Ten Hag said. “What is (Butland) bringing? I’m really happy with David, it’s quite clear he’s our number one but something can happen with David.

“You have to be prepared for that and not be in such a moment where you have only one experienced (goalkeeper), you can be unlucky. Last year I had this situation with Ajax.

“We had three goalies injured and you don’t want to be in a situation that at the end of the season."

ARSENAL LEGEND NOBBS IN VILLA SWITCH
Aston Villa have announced the signing of England midfielder Jordan Nobbs from Women’s Super League rivals Arsenal.

The 30-year-old, a Gunners legend who missed the Lionesses’ victorious European Championship campaign last summer with a knee ligament injury, has signed an 18-month deal with an option to extend.

RODGERS CALM FOR 'COMPLEX' TRANSFER WINDOW
Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers knows he has to be patient for new signings in the January transfer window.

Having signed just one outfield player in the summer, Rodgers is hoping for much-needed reinforcements to his squad this month as they try to climb away from relegation danger in the Premier League.

“We are working very hard behind the scenes to look to get the type of players that we want to bring in,” Rodgers said.

“Nothing to report today but I certainly know there is a lot of work going on in order to help the squad.

“It is very complex, but there is a lot of work that has to go on behind the scenes before the player comes in. That is what the club is trying to do and hopefully we can do that."

The Foxes certainly need help, falling back into start of season form by losing their three post-World Cup league games.

    GOODBYE... AND HELLO!
That's me done, then - I've been Cam and I'm heading off for a (very) late lunch.

Over to the team to take you through the rest of the days transfer news...

    BENFICA KEEN TO KEEP FERNANDEZ
One new Chelsea man has made his way to Cobham, but the burning question is whether a World Cup winner will be joining him.

Graham Potter's side have reportedly offered £87million and three players - Hakim Ziyech, David Fofana and Andrey Santos - in exchange, but to no avail.

While Todd Boehly hunts down the back of his presumably rather plush sofa for an extra few million pounds, Benfica boss Roger Schmidt is doing his utmost to keep his midfielder in Lisbon.

"We like him a lot and of course we want him to stay at Benfica", he says.

"There's a lot of money on the table and in this situation, as a young player, you think about that."

BADIASHILE IS A BLUE... FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE
Chelsea say 'bonjour' to Benoit Badiashile, whose move from Monaco on a mammoth seven-and-a-half year deal has been completed for a fee reported to be priced at £35million.

The 21-year-old centre-half was called up to the French national team for the first time this September for two Nations League clashes against Austria and Denmark.

Chairman Todd Boehly described the new arrival as "an excellent young player" and "an important part of our team in the years ahead."

You would hope so, given he signs until summer 2030...

    ORSIC NEARS SOUTHAMPTON ARRIVAL
Reports are emerging to suggest Southampton have agreed a deal for Dinamo Zagreb winger Mislav Orsic.

The Croatian featured six times at the World Cup in Qatar and scored a stunning goal in the third-place play-off win over Morocco.

The 30-year-old is said to be currently undergoing a medical, with an £8million fee agreed.

    LIVERPOOL IN FOR NUNES
Wolves might have fallen just shy of a second Premier League win since the restart last night, but their four-point return is the best in the division's bottom half, tied with Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa.

That said, £38million summer signing Matheus Nunes could be on his way out come the end of term, regardless of whether the West Midlands outfit survive the drop or not.

Liverpool are rumoured to be planning a deal worth £44million to secure his services - seemingly after passing up the opportunity to sign him in 2022.

Take a look at Sam McGuire's breakdown of the potential move.

    TEN HAG TO TARGET KUDUS
A busy day in terms of United talk.

The latest rumour to come out of Old Trafford is that Manchester United are toying with the idea of bringing in Ajax forward Mohammed Kudus.

The Ghanaian's exploits in Qatar have seen his stock rise this winter - and don't say we didn't tell you so...

Mohammed Kudus celebrates a goal against South Korea
Kudus' World Cup performances for Ghana put him front and centre in the shop window
    EVERTON DENIED INGS DEAL
Danny Ings sprang to Aston Villa's rescue last night to earn them a draw with Wolves late on, but could he be the man to save Everton's season?

The Toffees certainly hope so, but Ings' West Midlands club are said to have rejected a loan bid from Merseyside. They will only accept a permanent exit for the 30-year-old.

    It's all in Paper Talk.

KANE DEAL CAN'T COME SOON ENOUGH
Harry Kane's double at Selhurst Park means he's now within two goals of the late Jimmy Greaves' all-time Spurs scoring record.

Of Kane's 264 Tottenham goals, 198 have come from his 300 Premier League appearances - a record at that particular milestone.

His current deal expires next summer. Could the arrival of a few playmates - perhaps former Spurs youth Marcus Edwards and ex-Manchester City wing-back Pedro Porro, both now at Sporting - persuade Kane to put pen to paper on a long-term contract?

    RISE AND SHINE!
Good morning to all - though it might not feel like one for Crystal Palace fans after last night's second-half mauling against Tottenham.

The Eagles have seven points' worth of breathing room down the bottom, but some of their less fortunate Premier League counterparts will be getting down to business as we edge a day further into the transfer window.

With the FA Cup third round coming up this weekend, tonight's game between Chelsea and Manchester City is our last taste of top-flight action for a full week; might this be the perfect time for teams to push through deals?

    OVER AND OUT
And that's all for the evening, signing off after a very quiet few hours on the transfer front due to the ongoing Premier League action.

Be sure to join us again in the morning as we go through the latest Paper Talk, as well as cutting through the noise of one player linked with a move.

    INGS NETS AMID TRANSFER SPECULATION
Danny Ings, who we discussed earlier, scored for Aston Villa to earn them a point against Wolves earlier tonight.

Will that perhaps put the brakes on Villa's attempts to move him?

VILLA REJECT EVERTON'S LOAN BID FOR INGS
It is being reported that Everton have had a loan bid for Aston Villa forward Danny Ings rejected this afternoon.

The England striker has struggled for game time this season, especially since the appointment of Unai Emery.

Ings has played just 130 minutes since Emery was hired, starting just one of his four games in charge.

Villa are said to only be interested in a permanent transfer for Ings, a player who has averaged an impressive 0.51 xG per 95 minutes this season.

Of players to have played at least 800 minutes this season, that process ranks Ings eleventh best in the Premier League, ahead of all of his Villa teammates.

    BUTLAND BOUND FOR OLD TRAFFORD?
Crystal Palace goalkeeper Jack Butland is understood to be in talks ahead of a potential move to Manchester United.

Newcastle loan stopper Martin Dubravka has been recalled early to St James's Park, leaving Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag in need of a new understudy to David de Gea.

Butland, part of England's 2018 World Cup squad, moved to Selhurst Park in 2020, but has since featured just 10 times in the Premier League - and not at all this season.

His current deal at Palace expires in the summer.

    FELIX IN FOCUS
Each day we are picking out a player and cutting through the noise to give analytical, objective insight.

Reported Manchester United, Arsenal and Aston Villa target Joao Felix is in focus on Wednesday - looking at his career so far ahead of a potential January move.

It's a Wednesday afternoon, and there's live football to enjoy on BT Sport...

ENGLAND JOINS SPURS IN RECORD DEAL
Bethany England has joined Tottenham from Chelsea in what is reported to be a record deal for the Women’s Super League.

The 28-year-old England striker moves to Spurs after spending seven years at Chelsea, where she scored 74 goals in 163 appearances.

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes said: “Beth has given tremendous service to the club. She has contributed to all of our success over the past seven years and she leaves a winner and a Chelsea legend.

“We wish her the very best for the next stage of her career.”

    ARTETA: WE CAN'T WASTE OPPORTUNITY
Mikel Arteta insists Arsenal cannot waste any opportunity to strengthen their small squad as they seek to continue as the Premier League’s pacesetters.

“It’s something more for Edu (sporting director) and the board to respond to,” Arteta, who made just one substitution against Eddie Howe’s men, said of potential January arrivals.

“We are really trying to improve the squad in every window, this is no different.

“We will try to do our best because we cannot waste any window. We’re still with the squad and the numbers that we had (at the start of the season) but we will try.”

    BAD NEWS FOR LIVERPOOL...
Liverpool have struggled defensively this season, and things could be about to get worse as Virgil van Dijk is set for a spell on the sidelines.

It comes following a hamstring injury sustained in the Reds' 3-1 loss to Brentford - where he was forced off at half-time.

"I think it’s nothing serious, but that’s why we changed him," Jurgen Klopp side after the game, but the days that have followed haven't provided positive news.

    SCHADE SET FOR BRENTFORD
Brentford are set to announce the signing of Kevin Schade from Freiburg.

Various reports claim that the 21-year-old has completed a medical at the West London club ahead of a loan move for the remainder of the season.

The deal contains the option to buy for around the £22m mark, with Brentford keen to continue building on their strong attacking showings so far.

The 32.1 xG on their tally is the fifth-highest in the Premier League, while their 30 goals scored ranks them in eighth.

Schade has struggled for game time in the Bundesliga, starting in just one of his eight appearances. The winger did find the net in a 2-2 draw with Hertha Berlin in October.

    CHELSEA INTERESTED IN MESLIER
Chelsea are interested in signing Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier, according to French publication Foot Mercato.

The 22-year-old has already made 105 appearances for Leeds, establishing himself as the number one during the successful 2019/20 campaign where they were promoted to the Premier League.

The Stamford Bridge club face competition, with Bayern Munich, Newcastle and PSG all linked with a move for the France under-21 international.

Meslier has kept three clean sheets in England's top-flight this season, recording a total of 55 saves in his 16 appearances - the fifth-highest in the league.

    SPURS IN FOR GORDON?
Tottenham were interested in signing Anthony Gordon from Everton in the summer window - could they be set for a move this month?

The club's recruitment staff were at Goodison Park on Tuesday night to watch the winger as the Toffees were well beaten by Brighton, according to the Daily Mail.

The 21-year-old has found the net three times in the Premier League this season, having made 12 starts and three further appearances from the bench.

Everton's season as a whole has been one of huge disappointment, and Gordon has been seeing an average of 0.27 xG/95. That's a huge step up from the 0.12 xG/95 seen throughout the 21/22 campaign.

    Anthony Gordon's 22/23 stats
    GIROUD OF INTEREST TO UNITED
It's clear that Manchester United are interested in signing a forward this month, and that is hardly a surprise following Cristiano Ronaldo's controversial exit in December.

Olivier Giroud is the latest name to be linked, with the AC Milan man seen as a short-term but reliable fix up front.

Anthony Martial has been given the role and, to his credit, has done well with the limited minutes he's had. He's scored 0.65 goals/95 from 0.77 xG/95.

Giroud would offer them something different though - more of a presence to trouble opposition centre-backs - and this would be on the back of a World Cup where he became France's all-time top goalscorer.

    CHELSEA IN MUDRYK TALKS
Well, this is certainly an interesting line from Wednesday's Paper Talk column.

Chelsea are attempting to hijack Arsenal's move for Mykhaylo Mudryk, according to The Sun, and not only that, but Shakhtar are set for talks with the Blues in London this week.

It's been rumoured for a few months now that the Gunners would bring in Mudryk in January, and judging by the player's social media channels, he is keen on a switch to the Premier League.

The 21-year-old has scored seven goals and assisted a further six in the Ukrainian top-flight this season, alongside three goals and two assists in the Champions League.

    MORNING!
Morning all, and welcome along to the first Wednesday of the January transfer window.

It's still early days, but plenty of rumours and reports are flying around as clubs from across the Premier League, Sky Bet EFL and Europe aim to get deals done as soon as possible.

When it comes to what we're expecting today, who knows in terms of incomings, but a major outgoing could be Frank Lampard at Everton - his side were hammered 4-1 by Brighton last night.

RONALDO: MY WORK IN EUROPE IS DONE
Cristiano Ronaldo has declared “in Europe, my work is done” after being unveiled by Al Nassr on Tuesday evening.

In his first public appearance at his new club’s stadium Mrsool Park, Ronaldo said: “I’m feeling very good. I’m so proud to make this big decision in my life.

“In Europe, my work is done; I won everything, I played at the most important clubs in Europe and for me now, it’s a new challenge. This is a great opportunity, not only in football but also to change the mentality of the new generation.

“I had many opportunities in Europe, many clubs in Brazil, in Australia, in the US and even in Portugal. Many clubs tried to sign me but I gave my word to this club to develop not only the football but other parts of this amazing country.”

    LOPETEGUI ON CUNHA SIGNING
Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui has described Matheus Cunha as a “complete player” as the Brazilian forward prepares for a potential debut on Wednesday.

“He’s going to be able to help us at Villa Park. He’s going to be on the squad list," he told a press conference.

“The most important thing is that he’s a complete player. We’ve talked about this and I think that we can use him in different situations.

“He’s a forward, of course, but it depends on our way to play, he can play in the middle as an attacking forward, as a second forward or maybe in the wing.

“He’s a good player. All good players can provide good skills and good strengths for the team. He’s a very balanced player; he’s very physical but he’s also a very technical player. He has good technical skills, but we can also take advantage of his strengths as a footballer.”

    GAKPO OFFICIALLY A RED
Cody Gakpo has completed his transfer to Liverpool from PSV.

The club announced on Tuesday afternoon that the formalities have been confirmed, meaning that the forward is now available to Jürgen Klopp.

He could make his debut for the club when they take on Wolves in the third round of the FA Cup this weekend.

    RONALDO COMPLETES AL NASSR SWITCH
Cristiano Ronaldo has completed his move to Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr.

A post on Al Nassr’s official Instagram account, which also appeared on Ronaldo’s, showed the 37-year-old Portuguese posing with the club’s shirt.

And an accompanying message said: “This is more than history in the making.

“This is a signing that will not only inspire our club to achieve even greater success but inspire our league, our nation and future generations, boys and girls to be the best version of them

    BECKHAM JOINS BRENTFORD!
    Romeo Beckham
    Romeo Beckham
Romeo Beckham, the 20-year-old son of former England captain David Beckham, has joined Brentford’s B team on loan from Inter Miami II for the remainder of the season.

The move, subject to international clearance, will see the midfielder help Neil MacFarlane’s side as they challenge for the Premier League Cup and play matches abroad.

Beckham, who had a spell with Arsenal’s academy as a child, had already spent the last couple of months training with his new side to maintain fitness during the off season in America.

MacFarlane said: “We’ve been absolutely delighted with Romeo since he arrived with us. He has applied himself unbelievably well, he’s really bought into the culture and the group which he has become a big part of. I love his standards and the way he conducts himself on and off the pitch."

    SEAGULLS' CONNOLLY JOINS HULL
Premier League side Brighton have announced striker Aaron Connolly has joined Championship strugglers Hull on loan until the end of the season.

Connolly has returned early from a loan spell with Serie B club Venezia, where the Seagulls said the Irishman had “found his opportunities limited”.

    ORSIC SEALS SAINTS SWITCH
Southampton have confirmed the signing of Croatia winger Mislav Orsic from Dinamo Zagreb.

Orsic, 30, has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract, bringing experience from both the Champions League and Europa League.

“It’s a dream for every football player to come to play in the Premier League,” Orsic said on the Southampton website. “I’m here, I’m ready, I’m motivated and I hope that I will help the team to achieve their goals.

“We have only one plan – everybody to stay in the Premier League. We need to work hard every day and I hope that at the end of the year we will be happy.”

'BEES HAVE NO OTHER CLEAR PRIORITIES'
Brentford boss Thomas Frank says the Bees have already landed their top target in the January transfer window.

Striker Kevin Schade, on loan from Freiburg, could make his debut against West Ham in the FA Cup on Saturday and he is expected to make his move permanent in the summer, on a five-year deal.

“Kevin was the number one priority,” Frank told a press conference. “We are very pleased. He is a player we have been following very closely for a while.

“We have no other clear priorities, but we are in the market. If there is a good deal at the right price and the right potential, because I think we have enough experience in the team, then we will see.”

GIL EXPECTED TO STAY AT SPURS
Bryan Gil's rumoured move back to Spain could be delayed by Tottenham's injury crisis.

Spurs assistant boss Cristian Stellini said on Friday that he expects the winger, who impressed in Tottenham's 4-0 win over Crystal Palace on Wednesday, to remain in north London.

Stellini, deputising for Antonio Conte, who was too upset to take FA Cup pre-match press conference duties due to the death of Gianluca Vialli, admitted Tottenham are short in attack with Dejan Kulusevski, Lucas Moura and Richarlison all injured.

    NEVES 'WILL CONTINUE' AT WOLVES
Cheers, Tom - and we begin our early-evening round-up with the news that Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui insists in-demand midfielder Ruben Neves is going nowhere, despire rumoured interest from La Liga giants Barcelona.

Lopetegui has made a solid start at Molineux, with a win at relegation rivals Everton and a derby draw at Aston Villa, either side of a narrow defeat to Manchester United, boosting Wolves' hopes of avoiding the drop from the Premier League.

Neves has been linked with a move away from Wanderers for more than a year now but Lopetegui is aware of the Portuguese's importance to a side striving for survival.

He said: “We are not thinking about the possibility about moving out players, we are thinking about bringing them in. Neves is a fantastic player, he is a Wolves player and he will continue being a Wolves player. Ask me 100 times, it’s the same."

    THAT'S ALL FROM ME!
Signing off for the afternoon, with a weekend of sweet FA Cup third round action to prepare for.

Michael Beardmore will be on shortly to guide you through the rest of the day.

    BEALE REVEALS RANGERS INTEREST
Michael Beale has spoken to at least two players who are keen to come to Rangers “sooner rather than later”.

The Ibrox boss has had more time to focus on new recruits following the 2-2 draw with Celtic on Monday.

"We obviously have the game on Sunday then a free week into the semi-final with Aberdeen but in between it gives me more time to do things," Beale said.

"The negotiation part then takes place. I am not so much involved in that, that is with the agents and football clubs involved.

"I would say that the two or three I’ve spoken to are very keen to come and sooner rather than later, the same on our side. So let’s see."

    VAN DIJK INJURY REVEALED
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is facing a month on the sidelines after a hamstring problem was found to be more serious than first feared.

The Netherlands captain was taken off at half-time of Monday’s defeat at Brentford and further investigations have determined the severity will keep him out for a while.

“It was a surprise for us and a big blow. The diagnosis was pretty harsh and we talk about weeks, more than a month,” said manager Jurgen Klopp.

    VILLA HUNTING FOR A WINGER
Unai Emery has admitted that he wants to add a winger to his Aston Villa side before the January transfer window slams shut.

The club have been linked with a move for Udinese’s Gerard Deulofeu – who Emery worked with at Sevilla.

“When I arrived here, we need a winger, a specific winger, we need it and we are trying to find one,” he revealed, ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup clash with Stevenage.

“We are trying to add some different characteristics of the players to introduce into the squad. We now have two strikers in Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings who are specifically strikers.

“We are thinking of adding one more into the squad.”

    Unai Emery Villa
    MOYES ON JANUARY ARRIVALS
David Moyes admits West Ham could make moves in the January transfer market in a bid to climb away from relegation trouble.

“We might try and do some business if we can,” he said. “But ultimately the club spent a lot of money in the summer and we brought in a lot of players.

“And, ideally, we’re not trying to bring in so many players. We brought in a lot in this summer and we’re still trying to integrate them and get used to the Premier League.

“But we may need to, depending on how we think the situation is.”

    IN THE SOMMERTIME
Does the headline make complete sense here? Probably not, but there's one of my Fantasy Bundesliga names for you.

Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić has been discussing their negotiations for Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

"I don't like talking about players of other clubs, but Sommer is definitely a topic, of course," he tells Sky Germany.

"We are considering our options and will make a decision in the near future."

It comes after Manuel Neuer's injury on holiday post-World Cup, with Alexander Nübel set to remain on loan at Ligue 1 side Monaco.

Sommer, 34, has already impressed against Bayern this season - his 19 saves in a 1-1 draw back in August set a Bundesliga record.

    MUDRYK IN FOCUS
The latest in our 'Cutting Through' series puts focus on Mykhaylo Mudryk today.

He's a target for both Arsenal and Chelsea in the January window, with a move looking increasingly likely.

What do the statistics say about his performances so far?

    ARCHER ARRIVES AT BORO
Middlesbrough have strengthened their forwards department with the signing of Cameron Archer on loan from Aston Villa.

The 21-year-old netted seven goals from 5.6 xG in 20 appearances during a successful temporary spell at Preston last season.

He becomes Michael Carrick's first addition as head coach of the second tier club.

    Cameron Archer - 21-22 Championship
    TROSSARD TO LEAVE BRIGHTON?
Leandro Trossard is ready to quit Brighton in the summer after rejecting a new contract at the Amex Stadium, according to The Sun.

The forward has featured in 16 Premier League games for Albion this season, scoring seven goals from 38 shots and 4.67 xG.

Five of those goals have come in the ten games under Roberto De Zerbi - with a hat-trick in the 3-3 draw away at Liverpool in October.

He's also contributed two assists - that being from 1.61 xA.

    EFL STARS WHO COULD MOVE
The Sky Bet EFL has proven to be a great place for Premier League clubs to shop in with the aim of improving their squad.

As ever, the January window sees those in the top-flight looking around for the best possible additions, with the divisions below also providing some great value options.

    BUTLAND IN AT UNITED
Goalkeeper Jack Butland has expressed his delight at joining Manchester United on loan from Crystal Palace for the rest of the season.

Butland will provide cover and competition for number one David De Gea and Tom Heaton at Old Trafford after Martin Dubravka was recently recalled from his loan by parent club Newcastle.

The 29-year-old, who has been capped nine times by England, said: "This is an amazing club and one that I am now proud to represent.

"I’m really looking forward to working with an unbelievable goalkeeping group, supporting each other every day to create the best training and playing environment for the team."
