Hispasat is to present a new channel on its worldwide network to exclusively broadcast 4K Ultra HD content.
The Spanish satellite operator has chosen Thomson Video Networks technology and the support of Abertis and LG to carry the project.
The channel will be presented at IBC 2013 and is going to be available for the broadcasting industry, in order to test the UHD standard and develop new broadcasting technologies to bring the 4K products to the viewer as soon as possible. The first programme to be broadcast by Hispasat on the channel will be a documentary of Madrid’s Museo del Prado produced by Spain’s public channel TVE.
Next Sunday 15 September, Hispasat will broadcast 4K through its satellite network at IBC 2013, as well as it did in Madrid’s DVB World Forum in March and later in Brazil together with Telefónica’s TSA solutions. The broadcast will be done under HEVC technology (High Efficiency Video Coding) with a transmission speed of 20 Mbps. The content will be codified with DVB-S2 standard and released through Hispasat 1E.
