News and films are the most watched genres on television in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), while Facebook is the most liked social media platform, according to new research.
“The survey revealed that news and movies are the most popular types of TV programmes watched in the UAE,” said Mohammed Al-Shawwa, research manager, Arab Advisors Group.
“On the pay-TV front, the survey also revealed that over 40% of respondents who have a pay-TV subscription are subscribed to cable TV,” he added.
The UAE population has a range of pay-TV options available, including satellite-based television services from OSN and My-HD, and IPTV propositions from telecommunications operators Etisalat and Du.
Analysts also discovered high levels of social media adoption in the UAE through the media consumption survey results. Of those 750 respondents aged 18 and above who used the Internet, 80.8% have a Facebook account, according to the Jordan-based Arab Advisors Group.
