ZDF retains Champions League rights

German public broadcaster ZDF can continue to show Champions League matches on free-to-air television following the renewal of its rights agreement with the European football association UEFA.
The existing contract which runs until the 2014/15 season has been extended for the three seasons between 2015/16 and 2017/18. The financial details were not disclosed.
The agreement covers the exclusive free-to-air transmission rights for 18 games per season including the play-off matches of German clubs, the final and the UEFA Super Cup.
The pay-TV rights for the seasons between 2015/16 and 2017/18 were recently acquired by Sky Deutschland.
