Revenue from pay-TV subscriptions and video-on-demand (VOD) sales in Germany in 2013 amounted to 2.05 billion, up from 1.89 billion a year previously, according to Verband Privater Rundfunk und Telemedien.
Furthermore, said VPRT, the body representing private broadcasters in the country, in its Pay-TV in Deutschland 2014 report, there were 6.4 million pay-TV subscribers in Germany at the end of 2013, an increase of 400,00 year-on-year.
Looking at the German-speaking region as a whole, which has a reach of 7.1 million, while adding subs in Austria and the German-speaking parts of Switzerland, revenue was found to be 2.20 billion in 2013, up from 2.00 billion in 2012.
This represents continued significant growth in a region in which revenue stagnated during the 2005-2010 period.
