After a nasty carriage dispute, DISH Network has buried the hatchet with Turner Broadcasting, bringing CNN back to the satcaster’s lineup. But, it’s a temporary solution.
DISH and Turner have reached an undisclosed agreement to extend their relationship, restoring the 24-hour news network as well as Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, truTV, TCM, HLN, CNN en Espanol and Boomerang for subscribers.
But, according to reports the arrangement is just for a few months, to allow the two to work out a better deal.
DISH yanked the channels earlier this autumn, with Chairman Charlie Ergen complaining during an earnings call in November that “it's hard to have a double-digit price increase” for CNN, which has seen steady viewership declines over the last decade.
“It's Turner's job to make their product better, not ours,” he added.
Turner Broadcasting CEO John Martin fired back.
“We disagreed with virtually everything [he] said as it related to the importance of our product, as it related to his platform,” he said.
“We were both disappointed in the very antagonistic and aggressive nature of his comments yesterday,” he added. “And we're disappointed particularly given the fact that DISH had previously agreed to our networks’ rates and our carriage proposals weeks ago.”
