Does anyone know what the errors are that need correcting that necessitate having FEC and what difference/ benefit/disadvantage there is between it being 2/3 or 5/6

Is there a good reason for UK Sly changing all their transponders from 2/3 to 5/6 and why have they not just done them all on the same day so that a simple rescan would sort it all out in one go
