Korea's SK Telecom and CJ E&M are to jointly bring media content to different media platforms and connect programmes to the carrier's mobile commerce technologies.
"By combining SK Telecom's media platform technology and CJ E&M's leading content production capability, we expect to create the maximum synergy effect," SK Telecom's media business head Kim Jong-won told the Korea Times.
"Starting from collaboration with CJ E&M, we will expand the range of cooperation to include more diverse media content in order to discover innovative business models based on our media platform," he added.
The second-screen initiative will reportedly result in users being able to purchase items featured in CJ E&M's TV programmes immediately via mobile devices using SK Telecom's network.
The move follows SK Telecom's tie-up with CJ E&M in August to jointly invest in the production of five new television shows, due to be aired by CJ E&M's cable TV channels.
SK Telecom aims to become a provider of an integrated media platform with more than 15 million subscribers in South Korea by 2018.
