DirecTV is leading Ecuador's rocketing pay-TV market, reaching over 30% of families and owning one in three subscribers.

According to figures published by telecom regulator Arcotel, Ecuador registered 1.29 million subs by June 2015, meaning nearly five million Ecuadorians - or 30.5% of the population - are watching pay-TV.

DirecTV owns 32.9% of the market, followed by CNT (24.9%) and Grupo TV Cable (16%) in a market in which 240 companies (225 of which are cable providers) are licensed to offer pay-TV.

Looking to territorial distribution, provinces of Pichincha - where the capital Quito is located - Guayas and Manabi are the areas with highest penetration of pay-TV services.

These figures also reinforce Ecuador's status as one of Latin America's fastest growing pay-TV markets.

From ten years ago, when only 5.8% of Ecuadorians had a cable subscription, penetration has rocketed, growing from 7% in 2009 to 10% in 2010, 11% in 2011, 16% in 2012 and 23% by the end of 2013.
