Brazil's Globosat has unveiled details of its ambitious project for the Olympics which will be broadcast on fibre, 3G, 4G networks and will include streaming and video-on-demand (VOD) channels.

According to TelaViva, reporting from the Latin American Satellite Congress in Brazil, Globosat's director for technology programming, Guilherme Saraiva, said that Net and Claro HDTV - both América Móvil companies - will deploy 16 linear channels for the Olympic Games. Other operators will add between 13-15 each, reaching a total of over 40 channels fully dedicated to the games, including linear signals, streaming, TV everywhere and video-on-demand (VOD).

Globosat, which will produce the worldwide signal for the Olympics, plans to carry such bandwidth demand with a fibre infrastructure installed between the event's centres and Globosat's headquarters, in which all the material will be edited and then distributed.

Regarding field journalist teams, Globosat will increase mobility by equipping them with 3G and 4G broadcasting units.

As for Ultra HD, although frequently cited as the technology to watch for Rio 2016, Saraiva explained that Globosat isn't yet sure about the availability of 4K signals.
