After almost eight years of conflict, Mediaset and Google have come to an understanding through which Mediaset's viewer-recorded content will once again be available on YouTube in Spain and Italy.
mediasetspainThe agreement, which extends to both countries in which Mediaset produces and broadcasts TV networks, means a lot for the Italian audiovisual group, whose image has eroded since it sued Google back in 2008 for illegally using its material.
Mediaset has more or less accepted the conditions Google and YouTube were trying to impose right from the start. From now on, Google will use the Content ID tool on Mediaset-related pieces, meaning users can upload videos with Mediaset content and the company has to give single permission to each one.
In addition to this, both companies will also develop a joint strategy for content protection to ensure copyright protection.
"Google/YouTube and Mediaset recognise the mutually constructive approach that has led to the agreement and are delighted with the prospects opened up," said the companies in a statement.
