Singapore's StarHub is adding Malayalam channel Asianet Movies to its pay-TV platform on 23 October.
The 24-hour film channel carries over 1,000 titles – both classics and recent box office hits – aimed at the Malayalee Diaspora in Singapore. It will be offered with the existing Asianet general entertainment channel, also in Malayalam, to form the new Nidhi Pack for S$16.05 per month.
Films scheduled to be shown include comedies Ennum Eppozhum and Aadu Oru Beekara Jeeviyalla, and Lal Jose's 2013 film Immanuel.
"When StarHub first launched Asianet some years back, local Malayalee households were able to enjoy quality content in their language on a dedicated channel. Today, we are pleased to enhance their viewing entertainment with the introduction of Asianet Movies. The launch of Asianet Movies also signifies StarHub's continuous efforts in catering to the needs of ethnic communities in Singapore," said Lee Soo Hui, head of Media Business Unit, StarHub.
Reghu Ramachandran, senior vice president, Asianet, added: "We are extremely pleased and excited to strengthen our offerings on StarHub TV with the launch of Asianet Movies, India's first 24-hour Malayalam movie channel. The channel showcases the best of Malayalam movies and we are confident that the Malayalee Diaspora in Singapore will be excited by this addition."
The pay-TV operator is offering both new and existing subscribers a 50% discount for three months when they sign up for the Nidhi Pack between 29 October and 28 December. A free preview of Asianet Movies will be available on StarHub from 23 October to 16 November.
