After several weeks of trouble airing on Mediapro's over-the-top (OTT) platform, TotalChannel, beIN Sports has started to broadcast the Champions League on YouTube without major issues.
beIN Sports subscribers in Spain were, for the first time, able to access the channel on Google's social video platform, which will, according to the company, support up to five million simultaneous users.
This follows a deal coming after three years of continued collaboration between La Liga, Mediapro and YouTube, getting La Liga's channel over 1,500 million plays per season.
The beIN Media channel, which owns exclusive rights to the Champions League, is broadcast on every Spanish pay-TV platform apart from Telefónica's Movistar+, the market's largest player with nearly four million subscribers.
In addition to the most traditional platforms, the network tried to serve football fans through TotalChannel, but the service has proven unable to support traffic peaks during live games. Indeed, an average 7,000 subs have been unable to watch each time a match has aired.
beIN Sports is also available online through its own premium platform beinsportsconnect.es, which his optimised for all connected devices.
