Online video watched by 90% of Spanish Internet users

More than one in ten Internet users watch online video in Spain, with almost half of these watching YouTube.


The annual online video report from the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB), shows that PCs are still the favourite device to watch online video (chosen by 85%), followed by smartphones (41%) and tablets (32%).

Spaniards like to spend their online time watching YouTube (47%), streaming series (35%), watching video-on-demand (31%) or checking sports videos (24%). In addition, 40% of Internet users were found to watch less linear TV since getting online.

Regarding monetisation, only 12% of users have paid for content once or more, but 50% said they were willing to pay for content, especially films, sports and foreign series.

YouTube is the third most used platforms on smart TVs, and video content from YouTubers and influencers represents 17% of what is watched on these.

The YouTube app also has the highest penetration among smart TV users and is installed on over 50% of screens. Atresmedia (26%), RTVE (22%), Yomvi (17%) and Antena 3 (16%) complete the top five.
