The set-top box (STB) market in Brazil is to grow by 37% through to 2019, pushed by increasing digitalisation towards DTT shifting and HD adoption.
According to a report from Research and Markets, the STB market in Brazil will show a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 37.01% over the period 2014-2019.
Increasing digitalisation of TV will be the main reason boosting the market in Brazil. Digitilisation of TV will provide a wider range of channels, high picture quality, and all at a low cost. Brazil had initially planned to switch over to digital TVs by March 2016 but the government has shifted the plan to 2018.
Now the country's ministry of communications will subsidise STBs to the population with low sources of income as they switch off the analogue and shift to DTT.
According to the report, the increasing number of HD subscriptions is the other major reason driving the STB market. As the quality of video making is improving and there is an increase in demand for HD channels, consumers are preferring STBs that support the format.
The document also states that one of the main challenges hindering the growth of this market is the high cost of IPTV and hybrid STBs.
The market size is calculated by Research and Markets on the basis of the revenue generated from the shipments of STBs in Brazil that include cable, IPTV and direct-to-home.
