The votes were cast and the 18th Eutelsat TV Awards have now revealed a global TV market that enjoys huge strength in storytelling and creativity.

The annual competition is designed to highlight quality on the television channels broadcasting via the operator’s satellites. At the latest round of the awards in Rome attended by over 300 industry executives from around the world, entrants’ programming strategy, production and audience engagement were assessed by an independent jury of media experts from key video markets, including, for the first time, Latin America.

RTVN 1 Nov 2015 EutelsatEutelsat assigned awards to three broadcasters for what it called ‘exceptional’ work: to Discovery for 30 years in the business and for what it said was its “relentless drive to generate outstanding content matched to diversified age groups, demographics and regions”; to local TV station Vatican CTV for using Ultra HD to deliver historic papal events to a global congregation; and to Central and Eastern Europe operator SBB for accelerating the drive to full HDTV broadcasting in its region.

"The Awards is a unique opportunity to take the pulse of our industry, said Eutelsat CEO Michel de Rosen in what will almost certainly turn out to be a valedictory speech at the awards. “We are seeing channels that have started on Internet platforms move to satellite to expand their reach. We are in awe of the bravery of reporters who confront challenging and complex subjects and we are thrilled by the outstanding technical quality achieved for live concerts, matches and documentaries. It is a privilege to salute these achievements."

Other winners at the awards included ducktv, FilmBox, Arthouse, 365 Days TV, Sky Atlantic, Al Jazeera Balkans and PXTV.
