Technicolor says it's manufactured more than 20 million set-top boxes (STBs) for DirecTV PanAmericana over the past 22 years.

Technicolor has been a long-term partner of the AT&T-owned company, providing a wide range of basic and advanced STBs for use in the US and Latin America.

In 1993 Technicolor (formerly Thomson) was selected by DirecTV to design and manufacture the company's first STB, the DBS-1. A year later, DirecTV launched its direct-to-home (DTH) video service which also used Technicolor technology.

"Technicolor is pleased to be part of DirecTV's legacy of providing high quality direct-to-home video products and services to many customers throughout the US and Latin America, beginning in 1994," said Barbara Bessolo, president of Technicolor's connected home Latin America business unit. "We continue to strive to work closely with DirecTV Pan Americana to develop and introduce highly reliable new home media platforms and devices to support a wide range of advanced home and mobile video services."

The Latin American service provides pay-TV and DTH in eight territories, namely Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and Uruguay, and across the Caribbean.
