Middle East video-on-demand (VOD) service icflix will debut an original children's action comedy series featuring a female superhero, Dunia, this December.
The show is targeted at children up to the age of 12, although the story of a 12-year-old Arab girl, who uses her secret martial art skills to fight injustice and encourage positive social behaviour, will also appeal to teenagers and adults, according to icflix.
"The series aims not only to entertain but also educate children with important social messages," said Fadi Mehio, co-founder and chairman, icflix. "Dunia will have the potential to become a positive role model for children across the Arab world, sending out strong messages of awareness to children and adults alike."
The first season of ten episodes was produced in Arabic, but will also be made available in English and French across the Middle East and Africa (MENA) to widen its potential audience base.
Five additional animated original productions are currently being finalised to add to the icflix library of children's content. The VOD service already offers a dedicated icflix kids app for Android-based devices.
