Amazon streaming video has debuted on the Roku streaming platform in the UK.
Amazon Video offers Roku customers access to more than 50,000 popular and new release movies and TV episodes they can rent or buy, while Amazon Prime members can stream a library of more than 15,000 movies and TV episodes. With the addition of Amazon Video, Roku offers British users access to all major streaming services including Netflix, Google Play Movies, Sky Store and NOW TV, plus all major television catch-up channels including BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, All 4 and Demand 5.
"Amazon Video is one of the most popular streaming services among British consumers and we are delighted to make it available to our UK customers," said Ed Lee, VP, content acquisition, Roku. "With the addition of Amazon Video in the UK we now have the most comprehensive streaming channel line-up among major video streaming services and catch-up TV channels."
Roku has been beefing up its content options: it recently added Google Play Movies & TV to its Channel Store in the US, UK, Ireland and Canada.
And earlier this year Roku launched its universal search feature in the UK that enables consumers to look for movies, TV shows, actors and directors across select streaming channels. Roku Search initially featured Netflix, Snagfilms and Popcornflix, and now also includes Amazon Video.
"UK customers will be delighted to hear that the Amazon Video channel is now available on all Roku streaming players," said Jay Marine, VP, Amazon Video EU. "Our aim is to make Amazon Video available on all popular connected devices so our customers can access the blockbuster TV shows and movies only available as part of Prime - the UK's largest streaming service."
