The QYOU global 24/7 media network of curated subscription online video has launched its first app, targeted at authenticated subscribers using mobile devices.
The new offering aims to demonstrate the provider's capability as a multiscreen media network, supporting platforms with what it claims is the high quality delivery of 'the best of online video' content to subscribers through pay-TV, OTT and SVOD models.
The app blends new linear and VOD features, including functionality for skipping forward through live content and search and discovery. It is also attempting to cash in on the increasing interest in multichannel networks (MCNs) whose leaders, according to Ampere Analysis, are generating 42% of the total views on YouTube, notching up 100 billion views per month.
QYOU says that MCNs are increasingly the gatekeepers to popular content and it has an ambition to increase its content partnerships and guarantee that its viewers have access to the most popular and entertaining short-form material, both on linear TV and VOD. The mobile app — available as an authenticated standalone QYOU-branded app or integrated into an operator's existing mobile app —will attempt to provide a single gateway through which users can access high definition, ad-free and curated content from the world of online video.
"In an increasingly connected, TV everywhere world, premium platforms need tools that will help them create and enhance the subscriber value proposition," commented QYOU co-founder and CEO Scott Ehrlich. "Our app delivers this for mobile users by balancing active, passive, and personal viewing modes to create a more customised experience that can be adapted according to a user's mood, location or inspiration. To the best of our knowledge The QYOU on mobile is the first linear video channel in the world to offer viewers this level of flexibility."
